be:one

be:one - Unity in diversity

Organisational developments in 3 fields - 2 workshop visits - 4 danced concerts. For the first time, Stegreif is working with a choreographer and five dancers and developing musical auditions for applicants on an equal footing.

In the ‘be:one’ series, Stegreif focusses on its interdisciplinary core idea of a diverse whole and embarks on a search for unity in diversity. How does cohesion work and how is it strengthened? How can individual voices come to the fore and at the same time combine to form a diverse whole?

The project comprises several internal structural analysis and reflection processes on the topics of diversity, sustainability and application processes. In addition, an artistic piece is being developed: ‘escape valse. A danced concert’.

Stegreif is working with a choreographer and five dancers for the first time. The musical centrepiece is Maurice Ravel's ‘La valse’, which is framed by further recompositions of impressionist works. As usual with Stegreif: cross-genre and diverse!

You can gain an insight into our rehearsal process and the interaction between musicians and dancers in 2 workshop visits on May 6th and in October 2025 (tba)!

The premiere of the danced concert ‘escape valse’ is planned for spring 2026.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY

The interdisciplinary core idea of the Stegreif Orchestra requires the musicians to have diverse skills in interpretation, improvisation and performance. These go hand in hand with a variety of artistic backgrounds, training and personal styles. Stegreif constantly explores how individual talents, which often remain hidden in a large ensemble, can be emphasised and combined to form a diverse whole.

DIVERSITY, SUSTAINABILITY AND APPLICATION PROCESSES

As part of the ‘be:one’ project, Stegreif is undergoing further training in the areas of diversity, sustainability and application processes on the basis of consultations and analysis processes relating to our organisational structure.

In addition to diversity training, Stegreif is also focussing on social, ecological and economic sustainability. An alternative to the traditional audition process is also being developed. For musicians, these are associated with a great deal of pressure, which is why some throw in the towel. This is because in the classical concert business, playing behind a curtain usually decides success or failure in just a few minutes.

Stegreif is developing an audition model in which both sides - Stegreif and the applicants - get to know each other. For two days, everyone comes together in workshops to make music, improvise and experiment with performative elements.
