Following the premiere of the latest Stegreif production at Kühlhaus Berlin, escape valse - A danced concert will be performing at the Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestival. We look forward to an moving evening with you!
In escape valse – A danced concert, the ensemble's core idea of ‘unity in diversity’ is brought into focus and expanded to include a new parameter: collaboration with dancers on stage. Waltzes – ‘the idea of a fantastic whirl from which no one can escape’ – this is what Maurice Ravel's work La Valse stands for, which he composed in 1920 as the ‘apotheosis of the Viennese waltz’. Based on this work, Stegreif creates escape valse – a danced concert, framed by further recompositions of impressionist works and choreographic images of individuals dancing in a frenzy – an escapist whirl in the face of social upheaval. From the swelling din, improvising individual voices make themselves heard, utopian sounds and also expressions of doubt. And yet, despite their apparent incompatibility, music and dance combine to form a kaleidoscopic whole.
