explore Berlin: Neukölln
Our journey continues, into the city’s historic southern district. On 14 November at 7 pm and on 15 November at 4 pm, ‘explore Berlin’ will be performing at the ‘Kulturstall’ on the idyllic Schloss Britz estate. Against this historic backdrop, we will be presenting the visionary programme ‘freemahler – what the earth tells us’. Gustav Mahler created an immortal tribute to the beauty and unbridled power of nature in his symphonies. Today, in the face of climate change, this music takes on an urgent, almost painful relevance. Fifteen musicians bring Mahler’s melodies to the stage with improvisational ease, only to contrast them in the very next moment with soundscapes of transience and destruction. Through the recompositions of various works, a multi-layered reflection of our contemporary world at the cusp of time emerges. ‘freemahler’ at Britz Castle is an intense, accessible experience that stirs the soul, provokes thought and utilises music as a powerful tool for social change.
