It’s summer! The evenings are balmy and long, your gaze wanders over the rooftops of Berlin and then… Stegreif Musik!?! Once again, the Stegreif Orchestra has chosen a very special spot in Berlin as its concert venue: the Teufelsberg. With our ‘Sky Concert’ programme, we invite you to experience the Teufelsberg through music. Amidst the iconic domes of the former eavesdropping station, a concert trail unfolds, blending music, improvisation and architecture. Musical history and contemporary history merge, bringing the Teufelsberg to life through music.
On the Teufelsberg, vast open spaces meet urban spirit, and cathedral-like reverberation meets acoustic intensity. To allow the audience to experience this diversity, they will wander through four sound stations that uncover the history of the hill layer by layer – from its foundations of war rubble, through its secret role in the Cold War, to its significance today: a place of contemporary history and urban art. Amidst vibrant street art, chamber music ensembles from the Stegreif Orchestra make surprise appearances time and again, blending with the audience and the architecture to create a living concert trail. The evening concludes with a performance by the entire orchestra, featuring genre-spanning original compositions that build a musical bridge to the present day.
A unique musical experience awaits you – a concert in motion – exploring memory, transformation and collective freedom. The audience is invited to explore the venue and become part of a vibrant journey through sound, taking in Berlin’s history.
Duration: 3.5 hours
The 3.5-hour duration stems from the concert’s unique format: divided into several groups, the audience moves through the stations on the Teufelsberg one after the other, experiencing each stage from its own perspective. The paths and transitions have been deliberately designed to be spacious, to facilitate inclusion, individual freedom of movement and a relaxed arrival. At the end, all groups come together at a fifth station for a joint finale.
