The project's second workshop concert takes a look at the combination of improvisation and solo concerto in the Classical and Romantic musical eras.
The #freesolo project looks at the tension between autocracy and democracy, the balance between action and reaction, the balance between loud demands and careful listening. To this end, the Stegreif Orchestra scrutinises the solo concerto and the classical orchestral apparatus for its contrasting forms of conducting. Improvisation plays a leading role and forms the musical means of this project through the development of individual solo to collaborative group improvisations.
The second #improcerto is dedicated to the musical epochs of classical and romantic music. Between notated formal language, motivic-thematic development and the breaking up of the sonata form, Stegreif explores the freedoms in the music of this period. The works of the most frequently performed era of classical music are placed in a new context using the means of improvisation and thus critically scrutinised. Last but not least, the workshop concert #improcerto 2 will also focus on current forms of improvisation by a symphony orchestra, as they form the starting point for the #freesolo project.
As composer in residence, the composer, pianist and improviser Noam Sivan will work with the Stegreif Orchestra to develop a stylistic repertoire that is created in the moment and questions current musical practice.
