GIOVANNI. Eine Passion

NEW PERSPECTIVES ON MOZART'S OPERA

Giovanni, this great mythical figure is dead, and yet we still know of him and his machinations, through which all conventions were shattered. Images of women and men, role expectations and the ambivalence of attraction, seduction and abuse are open to being challenged and readdressed. This is the fuel for our search, a search in which we probably encounter ourselves more than we encounter him.

»EVERYTHING INTERPENETRATES. AN EXPERIENTIAL SPACE.«

GIOVANNI. Eine Passion is a co-production between the Stegreif Orchester and the Neuköllner Oper. In this project, the musicians of the two ensembles play together for the first time and seek different perspectives on Mozart's opera. The dividing line between instrumentalists and singers is blurred, and together they embark on a journey "into the music, which weaves even more layers into the story through re-composition and improvisation," as Juri de Marco, the orchestra's musical director, explains.

Our GIOVANNI is not as much another production of the world-famous opera as it is an expedition into the alchemy of the myth, the magic of Mozart's music and the creativity of the 22 performers.

Ulrike Schwab, director

»IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF THE AUDIENCE APPROACHES THIS EVENING AS CURIOUSLY AS AN EXHIBITION OF UNKNOWN IMAGES, WITH OPEN EYES AND ABOVE ALL AN OPEN HEART. TO FIND OUT WHAT ELSE THIS OPERA CAN BE.«
